VAXBaby 27: Natural immunity—better than vaccines?
Although many of the vaccines on the childhood schedule could easily be considered unnecessary because the infection no longer poses a threat, many people like me might choose to skip some of them for another reason: vaccines screw up your immune system. This may come as a surprise to you, but our attempts to hijack the immune system with vaccines tend to create unintended consequences.
Most people think of vaccines as simply taking a harmful virus or bacteria, killing—or weakening it—so that it can’t harm, and introducing it into the body to create an immune response without all the danger of getting the actual disease. Many vaccines don’t actually work this way.
