VAXBaby 24: The Chickenpox Vaccine
Let’s talk about the chicken pox vaccine, otherwise known as the Varicella vaccine. At your 1-year checkup, they will suggest your child receive this shot. The Varicella zoster virus causes chicken pox, a very mild infection not known for creating any problems other than a bunch of little red itchy pocks all over your body. This is a live virus vaccine, meaning it does occasionally have the ability to mutate into the actual infection, but the actual infection isn’t a concern anyway. This is a relatively new vaccine. It was first introduced in 1995, so if you were born around or before then, you might have not received it.
