Ep 103- The Secret Link Between Zika & Polio

You won't believe how similar the Zika & Polio stories are. Once you see it, you can never unsee it.

You may have heard the saying “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes…” It is amazing how Zika parallels the Polio story. If you don’t see it, I just want to point it out, because history is a very good tool at predicting the future. This is why I study history more than I study science. I study science quite a bit, but in the end I am trying to develop a lens, a context through which I can accurately see what is going on. Every physician in medical school ought to spend a semester on the history of medicine, before they learn ANYTHING ELSE! Because it might help them develop the humility they need to treat patients well. Physicians coming out of medical school today would probably be shocked to learn that the mortality of most diseases began to plummet around 1900 not because of medical intervention, but DESPITE it!
